Birds are good at speaking, but why?
Some birds are masters at mimicking our human language. Read here which species of birds can learn to speak and how to teach them.

Some birds can actually learn to speak. Some of them are exceptionally gifted in languages, while others can only learn a small vocabulary. You can read here which bird species are so easy to imitate human language and how you can teach them to speak.
Parrots have the best speech ability among birds.
Parrots are among the most gifted speakers in the bird world. The gray parrot is considered to be the most talented of them: not only can it learn a large number of individual words or entire sentences, but it can also imitate the human voice in tone and expression in a deceptively similar way.
Talented speakers also include the Moluccan Cockatoo and the White-crested Cockatoo – they often have very good pronunciation. Some Amazon parrots can also learn single words and whole sentences.
The popular cockatiels and budgerigars can also imitate speech. You are able to learn words or complete sentences. Black-headed and Red-rumped Parrots usually have better pronunciation than they do, but their vocabulary is much smaller than that of Grays.

Other birds with the ability to speak
Some starlings can also learn to talk when raised by humans. Beos in particular can usually repeat the human voice clearly and in the right intonation. Even some corvids can learn to speak by living with humans.
Start language training easily
A bird is most likely to learn to speak if you practice with it from an early age. Every day you should speak to him the words you want him to learn. Start with just a few words that ideally contain a lot of vowels, i.e. the letters A, E, I, O and U, like “hello” or “sofa”.
At first, your bird will just listen. It could be weeks before he says anything – so be patient. The ideal period for language training is when the bird is resting, i.e. usually midday and late afternoon. The bird can relax and listen to you while you scratch it.
Expand language training
If your bird speaks the first few words correctly, you can expand its vocabulary. You should repeat words you already know so that your bird does not forget them. Birds that are particularly talented in languages, such as beos or parrots, may simply pick up on and repeat words in everyday life.
The special feature: the birds can usually reproduce what they have learned in relation to the situation. For example, a parrot will say “phone” when the phone rings or say “hello” as a greeting.
As talented as some birds are at imitating our language, it is always just imitation. So your bird doesn’t understand the meaning of the words it says. Nevertheless, it is of course a lot of fun to exchange a few words with a bird.
